WHAT WE DO

SPC

Peace through dialogue. Our objective is achieving peace by promoting dialogue between or among the conflicting parties and further encouraging them to enter into formal peace talks, with the aim of ultimately reaching a peace settlement. We will talk to anyone involved in conflicts regardless of who they are and their past, as long as they have no outright objection to consider eventually entering into peace talks.

Political impartiality is key. We shall maintain political impartiality at all times and will not engage in any activities or events that may run contra to this. Moreover we do not take sides or pass comment on the present or previous political standing of anyone involved in a conflict.

We are in this for the long haul. Orchestrating formal peace talks among conflicting parties does not happen overnight. It takes time to cultivate and provide the right environment for it to mature. We are prepared to play a role in initiating the talks and patiently nurturing them to the point a peace settlement can be achieved.

A new perspective is needed. Many conflicts in Asia have dragged on unresolved for too long. We think that it is time to look at conflicts from a different perspective and be open to taking new approaches. As an organisation we hope to bring a new outlook and fresh ideas to the field. In turn, we hope to be able to bring about long-term peace through the means of dialogue.

A permanent disaster recovery solution. Asia has been hit by a number of devastating natural disasters in recent times. A number of aid agencies have provided fantastic support alongside government employees but we feel that there needs to be a more long term solution. The region’s susceptibility to extreme weather means that a permanent disaster recovery base needs to be setup to provide immediate help when needed. In the future, we hope to be involved in setting this up.

Asia should be the UN’s base. More than 60% of the world’s population and the majority of conflicts are within 7 hours flight time of Singapore, a secular state with modern infrastructure. This is why we are campaigning for the establishment of a United Nations base in Singapore, something we think could be hugely beneficial.

We are open to ideas. Exactly how SPC should operate is something open for discussion and we are always ready to listen to your valuable ideas. Please do give us your comments, whatever they may be.

We have offices in both Singapore and London. Please feel free to get in touch at anytime, for any reason.
