Most of us live in peace but unfortunately, many people live under the blight of conflict on a daily basis. Conflict brings suffering and despair to many innocent people – especially the vulnerable, the elderly, women and children. Conflicts also hamper social progress and economic development. It is impossible to alleviate poverty and suffering while conflicts are going on. Peace settlements are the key to resolving these problems.
Peace through peace settlements will benefit everyone. Helping to resolve conflicts is one of the most valuable things that can be done and it will simultaneously improve the quality of life for huge numbers of people.
Pain and suffering are created by human beings and we believe that these unfortunate creations can be resolved by fellow human beings.
The question is how? Delivering food and setting up medical centres in the conflict zones are useful and essential for the immediate relief of hunger and illness, but this has never been the long-term solution.
Rather, the long-term solution to a conflict is always through negotiated peace settlements. The sooner a peaceful settlement is reached, the better. With this in mind, we wish to play a role in talking to conflicting parties and encouraging them to engage in peace talks and settlements at the earliest possible stage.
